After a decade and a half of League of Legends, the evolution of Summoner's Rift and its neutral objectives has been nothing short of monumental.  Sure, there's constant changes to the champions and items, but lets take a look at the ever-changing but ever-static map we all know and love.

Dragons:

  • Elemental Drakes: Introduced in Season 6, dragons were diversified into five elemental types: Infernal, Ocean, Mountain, Cloud, and Chemtech. Each type provides unique buffs to the team that slays it.
    • Infernal: Increases damage and attack speed.
    • Ocean: Enhances health and mana regeneration.
    • Mountain: Boosts armor and magic resist.
    • Cloud: Grants movement speed and ability haste.
    • Chemtech: Previously Hextech, it now gives adaptive damage and healing reduction.
  • Elder Dragon: Spawns after a team secures four dragons of any type, granting the Dragon Soul, a powerful team-wide buff that varies by the type of dragon killed.
  • Rise of the Elements: In Season 10, the map itself changes based on the type of dragon killed, affecting terrain, brush size, and strategic elements like pathways and visibility.

Rift Herald:

  • Introduction: Added in 2015 to provide early game action, particularly in the top side of the map. It spawns in the Baron pit before Baron Nashor.
  • Eye of the Herald: Upon killing Rift Herald, a team member can pick up the Eye of the Herald, which can be used to summon the Herald to charge enemy structures.
  • Ridable Feature: For Season 14, players can now ride the Rift Herald, controlling its movement until it hits terrain or a structure.

Baron Nashor:

  • Buff Changes: Over the years, the buffs from Baron have been adjusted. Originally, it provided the Hand of Baron, which increases damage, health regen, and grants a shield for minions.
  • Variants: In Season 2024, Baron Nashor was given three forms - Hunting, Territorial, and All-Seeing - each with unique pit configurations affecting gameplay around it.
  • Spawn Time: Typically spawns at 20 minutes, but in 2025, with the introduction of Atakhan, its spawn was pushed back to 25 minutes.

New Monsters and Changes:

  • Voidgrubs: Introduced in Season 2024, these small monsters spawn in the Baron pit at 5 minutes, providing a buff called Hunger of the Void that deals additional damage to structures. Killing enough grants periodic Voidmite allies.
  • Atakhan: In Season 1 of 2025, this new epic monster spawns at 20 minutes with two forms based on game activity. It provides buffs like increased effects from epic monsters or a one-time resurrection.

Jungle Monsters:

  • Buffs: Blue and Red buffs have seen modifications; for instance, in Season 2024, after 20 minutes, these monsters transform into Voidborn versions, granting team-wide buffs upon defeat.
  • Scuttle Crab: Also transforms into a tougher Voidborn Scuttler after 20 minutes, providing a significant vision advantage when killed.

These changes have been aimed at diversifying gameplay, adding strategic depth, and keeping the meta fresh, ensuring that players must adapt their strategies over time.
