The expansion of Smash continues apace this week, as Counter Logic Gaming (CLG) announced the signing of one of the hardest working and most talented young Melee stars in the world. Kevin ‘PewPewU’ Toy, formerly of Melee It On Me, was announced as their new player today, taking one of the biggest teams in eSports firmly into the front and centre of the Smash scene with this acquisition.

Founded in 2010, CLG are one of the older organisations still active in League of Legends, and up until this point had only the LoL team and a Halo setup on board, although the team have previous history in DOTA too. PPU, as he is known in the Smash scene, represents their first foray into fighting games and the world of Smash Bros, and is a savvy pick-up with the ‘gods’ of the game well and truly spoken for after Leffen joined TSM.

Aged 21, PPU is one of the best Marth mains in the world, famous not only for his intelligent and technical play but also his teamwork with Zach ‘SFAT’ Cordoni in the notoriously brilliant ‘PEWFAT’ doubles team that has taken virtually every scalp going in that form of the game. A Norcal native for life, he began playing competitively at 13, and eight years later this move is the reward for his good work in play and also in promoting himself through ventures connected to the game, like smashlounge.com, his ‘compendium for smash knowledge’.

According to the video released to mark the move PPU is a long-time fan of CLG, making this a marriage made in heaven, but it remains to be seen whether he can commit more time and money to travel now he has the support of a top team. With the ambition of winning a major firmly in his eye, PPU is potentially going to get more dangerous with this move, and CLG have made a good move in picking up one of the best free agents around.
