The International 2023 Schedule and Format has
been released by Valve.
According to Valve's latest blogpost on Dota 2's official website, TI12 will
feature a new schedule and format.
Let's take a look at the schedule and format for The International 2023 (TI12).
The International 2023 Schedule
With a few tweaks to The International 2023 (TI12) schedule, aligning with Valve's new approach, nearly all games will now be scheduled over three weekends, i.e., Friday to Sunday.
To seamlessly accommodate all twenty teams, each phase of TI12 will have its dedicated weekend.
- Group Stage (October 12-15, 2023)
- Playoffs (October 20-22, 2023)
- The Finals (October 27-29, 2023)
The Road to The International
Splitting "The International" into two distinct phases, with two distinct names:
The Road to The International, will include the Group Stage and the Playoffs, until only eight teams remain and the rest stand eliminated; and
The International itself, where the final eight teams fight for the coveted Aegis of Champions.
The Group Stage will be online whereas the Playoffs will be played live in front of an audience.
New Group Stage format for The International 2023
The old group stage format with two groups of ten teams, playing in a round robin format over the course of four days, has been abolished.
The new group stage format for The International 2023 will now have twenty teams being split into four groups, to be played over the course of two days, with the bottom team in each group getting eliminated.
Sixteen teams will go head-to-head in the second half of the group stage, deciding which teams enter the Playoffs in the Upper Bracket.
The International 2023 Playoffs
The Playoffs kick off on Friday, October 20th at the Seattle Convention Center’s Summit, with the top eight teams fighting for the four Upper Bracket slots of The International.
Saturday and Sunday will consist of a series of elimination matches, with the four survivors making it into TI’s Lower Bracket.
Unlike previous iterations, all matches will be played in a best-of-three format.
The International — Main Event
The final eight teams of The International will compete at Climate Pledge Arena from October 27th to 29th to determine which team is the best in the world.
Friday and Saturday will feature four best-of-three matches, and Sunday will feature a battle between the top three teams — the
Lower Bracket Finals, and the best-of-five
Grand Finals.
