EsportsHeaven 2023-10-10 12:16:53

These are all the teams who qualified for the Overwatch World Cup 2023.  The Overwatch World Cup is back. After the world was shut down thanks to a global pandemic, the World Cup was cancelled. Now, after the end of the 2023 Overwatch League season, competition is still on the menu.

Teams Qualified From The Americas

Roaring in, Team United States easily dominated Group A of the North American qualifiers.  With some of the biggest names in western Overwatch, can Team USA defend their 2019 title?  Coming in at an expected second seed, Team Canada are always a threat. With a team hungry to prove themselves in a new era of Overwatch, will this be Team Canada's year? As a team that has missed Overwatch World Cups in the past, Team Mexico is prepared to make up for lost time.  As the only team to dent Team USA by taking a map off them, can this 2023 roster put Mexico on the Overwatch map? Team Colombia swept through Group B.  While this may seem surprising, it shouldn't be.  Former Philadelphia Fusion star Josh "Eqo" Corona is leading the team.  Can Team Colombia find a road to the podium at Overwatch World Cup 2023? After missing the 2019 Overwatch World Cup, Team Brazil aims to prove the world wrong.  This will be the first year since 2016 that Team Brazil has made it to the main stage of the Overwatch World Cup.  Can they make a statement this year?

The Winners From EMEA

Team United Kingdom are back this year to bring home a medal to the motherland.  The United Kingdom advanced as the first seed from EMEA's Group A. However, the European leaders did suffer a surprising loss to Team Denmark. Will that blemish plague them this year?  Coming in as Group A's second seed is Team Spain Painting EMEA as a region of high parity, Spain suffered two losses. They fell to Team United Kingdom and Team Italy. Next up, narrowly cutting in at third is Team France France looks to further their World Cup success with French legends like Nicolas "NiCOgdh" Moret, Benjamin "BenBest" Dieulafait, as well as others.  Team Saudi Arabia is a dark horse threat this year at the 2023 World Cup.  Advancing through EMEA's Group B as the first seed Team Saudi Arabia swept the competition only dropping a single map to Team Finland. Team Finland holds Group B's second seed and the final seed for EMEA in the Overwatch World Cup.  2016 was the last time the Finns came close to the Overwatch World Cup podium. Can 2023 change that trend?

World Cup From APAC?

While they were absent from the qualifiers, Team China was given a direct invite after the Overwatch 2 servers were shut down in the country. After a majority of the team's recent performance at the 2023 Overwatch League playoffs, Team China's powerhouse mantle is cemented.  With three gold medals in their cabinet, Team South Korea are easily a favourite to take home the 2023 Overwatch World Cup.  And their complete sweep of the Asia-Pacific's (APAC)Group A only furthers that prediction. A somewhat surprising upstart this year has been Team Japan. Housing the entire Overwatch Contenders team VARREL, Team Japan  Advancing as APAC's 2nd seed from Group A with convincing wins over everyone other than Team South Korea.  VARREL just recently finished 2nd at the Overwatch Contenders: Summer Series.  Finally, Team Hong Kong rounded out the Group A hopefuls.  With a record of 3-2, suffering two losses to Team Japan and South Korean, Hong Kong has their work cut out for them.  Longtime World Cup fans will remember star flex support Wong "ManGoJai" Kin-long. 2023 will mark his 4th appearance alongside Team Hong Kong.  Advancing as the top seed from APAC's Group B, Team Austalia looks to take a shot at the podium this year.  With familiar faces like Kurt "naahmie" Pedersen, Riley "cuFFa" Brown, and Vancouver Titans' own Leyton "Punk" Gilchrist, Team Australia has hope.  With a special place in all our hearts, Team Thailand rounds out Group B.  Depending on the bracket draw, Team Thailand has a chance but expectations should be measured.  APAC staple and Thai Overwatch Legend, Ubon "oPuTo" Dara, will also take the stage for his fifth Overwatch World Cup appearance.  The 2023 Overwatch World Cup is set to begin on October 29th.
