The first day of ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023 Group Stage had quite a few surprises! The Capital of Malaysia is hosting the first Tier 1 tournament post TI 2023, so some wonky results are expected.
Group A Day One Results

TI and one of them (Gaimin Gladiators) made it all the way to the Grand Finals. This is how the first day went:

GG had the a tough first day, with Team Secret and BetBoom Team in their wake. They drew both BO2 matches, but they might still be turning the engines back up after The International.
BB also only managed to get two ties, with brand-new team Wawitas Sagazes getting an upset victory. Much like GG, BetBoom are probably still just getting back on the tracks after their impressive Top Six at TI.
No team finished the first day of the tournament undefeated in Group A, but Azure Ray and Blacklist International take the temporary shared first place.
Group B Day One Results
The Falcons swoop in with an excellent first day for Group B.

The Saudi-Arabian owned organization took down Team Liquid and LGD in two clean sweeps. The post-TI owes are a theme that didn't stay in Group B exclusively, as the Chinese org that finished third at TI12 is heading into day two 0-0-2.
They were also taken down by G2.iG, the first game played by the team since the joint partnership of the organization began.
