How to counter Torbjorn in Overwatch 2?
It's the worst feeling of dying to an inanimate object and it's worse to die to Torbjorn's turret. We've all been in ranked lobbies where the enemy Torbjorn runs amuck and ruins your backline. Overwatch 2's most iconic engineer is on draft today. So, how do you counter Torbjorn in Overwatch 2?The key is dealing with Torbjorn's turret. Like most games, especially in FPS, a player can't be in two places at once--unless you build turrets.Torbjorn's signature ability is the most important thing to track when trying to limit his impact. Keeping in mind where it is, how Torbjorn's using it, and what your team is using to remove that piece of utility is all incredibly important. That said, who should you be picking?
Counter Torbjorn As DPS
Pharah and Echo might seem a little backward to counter Torbjorn but tackling his turret is the key. Being able to hover above certain aspects of the map can open up new angles to attack Torbjorn's turret.Echo's Sticky Nade might be a little bit of a trap to use against Torbjorn's turret. Due to its stationary nature, it can be attractive to want to use Sticky Bombs. Try and avoid this as it limits your action economy against other enemies. Stay high and keep poking away. Mei is a solid option for countering Torbjorn due to how she can control the actual map geometry. Being flanked by the enemy Torbjorn, especially by his turret, can be a serious pain. Using Ice Wall to cut off his angle of attack and using that window to reposition can be a serious help. Even if he isn't necessarily flanking, but Torbjorn is playing direction behind his tank, that Ice Wall separating the enemy tank from his team can hamstring Torbjorn's damage output. Hanzo is another great option against Torbjorn. Not only will Torbjorn oftentimes be sat next to his tank, but the occasional arrow might graze him. Still, many of the same attributes are there. Hanzo can quickly access vertical positions and can spam out his turret, leaving the Torbjorn hampered.
Counter Torbjorn As Tank
Tanks have a far easier job when looking to counter Torbjorn. Both Sigma and Ramattra have a ton of utility. Both picks can place their respective barriers in Torbjorn's face or his turret's if that is a serious problem. Sigma and Ramattra's primary fire can both keep Torbjorn's turret pinned down quite seriously. Reinhardt is a slower approach to tackling Torbjorn. But be wary; Charge at your own risk. Dropping your shield for any length of time is putting your team at serious risk of getting picked or pressured out of their own position, either by him or his turret.Winston never fares well with Overwatch heroes with shotguns and Torbjorn is no different. On top of that, Overlord increases Torbjorn's attack speed so that Winston gets shredded even faster. If you're looking for a more mobile tank, try Wrecking Ball or D.Va. This, at the very least, gives you some agency to maintain control of Torbjorn's turret. Best piece of advice; barriers are your friends. Pick your best hero with a barrier and keep tabs on his turret.

Counter as Support
When it comes to support, you've got fewer options to choose.Overwatch heroes like Mercy, Brigitte, and Moira don't have a ton on the table to handle the enemy Torbjorn and his turret. Lucio, on the other hand, can keep him from playing off angles or spamming from the high ground but may run into issues with Torbjorn's turret. Zenyatta isn't a terrible option if you're aiming to spam out Torbjorn's turret. Baptiste isn't awful either, especially with Amplification Matrix adding a serious increase in damage output to your team. Baptiste's own damage output isn't off the table either plus his high through healing against Torbjorn's inherent spam damage. Ana is always a good option because of how much she brings to the table. The ability to force the Torbjorn to use Overload early with a well-placed Biotec Grenade is a huge help in keeping him under wraps.Images via Blizzard Entertainment
