It all began after the season 4 World Championships. Fnatic had turned in an exciting, yet disappointing, finish. They ended up falling in the group stage. This finish led to some of the players looking to go their own ways. Enrique "xPeke" Cedeno Martinez announced the formation of his own team, where he would act as an owner and the starting mid laner. Martinez recruited his former teammate, who had announced his retirement, top laner Paul "sOAZ" Boyer to join the team as well. Also joining the team were two other veteran LCS players. Brought in to play the support position was Alfonso "Mithy" Aguirre Rodriguez, formerly on Lemondogs, as well as Ninjas in Pajamas. Joining them would be ex-Team Solo Mid/Copenhagen Wolves jungler Maurice "Amazing" Stuckenschneider. Last but not least, the only true LCS rookie to join the team was Jesper "Niels" Svenningsen. Svenningsen, having been personally recommended to “xPeke” by none other than Martin “Rekkles” Larsson, would join as the AD carry. With this new lineup set, they looked to make LCS through the Spring Challenger Series.
Origen would go on to dominate the less experienced teams in the Challenger Series. They were able to finish at the top of the table with a 9-1 record. In the playoffs, their dominance continued, beginning with a 2-1 victory over Reason Gaming. After looking almost beatable, Origen faced off in the finals against the only team to give them a loss in the regular round robin, Copenhagen Wolves Academy. All doubts were quickly laid to rest, as Origen went on to dominate all 3 games in the best of 5 series and secure their spot in the EU LCS Summer Split.
Coming into Summer Split, expectations around Origen were high. Origen has delivered on those expectations, and more, so far. Through the first two weeks of EU LCS, Origen has dominated their opponents, finishing with a 4-0 record. With a combined KDA ratio of 11.7, Origen has not only been winning games, but doing so with style. Leading the way has been the rookie AD carry “Niels”. Two weeks of stellar performances from this rookie carry, has lead to a 23.7 KDA. That puts him atop the leaderboard in the EU through two weeks. Joining him at the top of the KDA leaderboard are 3 of his teammates. Origen players currently hold the top 4 spots: 2nd “xPeke” (16 KDA), 3rd “Amazing” (13 KDA), 4th “Mithy” (8.6 KDA). Origen also holds the lowest avg game time in the EU, at just over 32 minutes. Their high KDA’s and veteran ability to close out games, demonstrates that Origen is a scary opponent for anyone in EU LCS.
Who will be the first to knock off the new team? With Origen’s fantastic start to the 2015 summer split underway, a titanic matchup looms in the coming weeks. Joining Origen at the top of EU through two weeks is Martinez and Boyer’s former team, defending Spring Split champions Fnatic. The two teams of former teammates will face off for the first time on June 18th, 2015 in week 4.
