Gen.G and JDG, with these two victories, become the first teams qualified for the Knockout Stage of Worlds 2023. This shouldn't come as a surprise to most, as these are the two teams expected to win the entire tournament. The day started with JDG doing what they've done time and time again throughout this year: giving LNG fans a hope of a victory, just to take it away in the last game of the series. This three game chess match was the best series at Worlds so far and leaves no doubt in my mind that LNG will be making their way to Knockouts soon. JDG stuck to their style of getting a strong frontline for Ruler's hyper-carries, bringing back the classic Zeri-Lulu lane that has terrorized the LPL for this entire year. LNG fought back by doing what they do best: snowballing around Tarzan and Scout. The King of the Jungle put on a masterclass of early pathing on his Jarvan and the team played a nearly flawless snowball until the Nexus exploded. Unfortunately, that seems to be the only way to beat JDG at the moment. When Kanavi took the better of Tarzan with an insane Wukong performance, LNG pushed their luck too far. 369 was the final nail in LNG's coffin with an MVP Aatrox game. Indeed, he doesn't just play tanks.Image via Riot Games
Eu was hopeful seeing G2 take down Weibo Gaming in what was the craziest game at Worlds so far, but the mistakes that went unpunished by the Chinese team and DK were not ignored by Gen.G. The LCK champions came into this series much better prepared, with no changes to how they approached the early parts of both drafts. They gave Maokai away twice in a row, one of the most coveted picks at the tournament, and beat it both times. As Chronicler and Atlus pointed out on the cast, Delight should not be getting Rakan again this tournament. G2 seemed to come in with a very specific plan that didn't work, and the versatility and unpredictability that they usually bring was limited to a Support Lissandra pick that, albeit exciting, didn't do much. EU fans shouldn't fret, though. G2 had the toughest draw of any of the teams with a chance of a 3-0 and should still be favored to make Top 8 at Worlds 2023.Image via Riot Games
This will be the last day of BO1s at Worlds 2023. We've finally dodged a torrent of civil wars, but these draws do not give KT Rolster a single break. Despite being the third seed from of one the two strongest regions at Worlds, this is what they're opponents have been:
