Evo 2015 is considering allowing custom moves in Super Smash Bros. Wii U

Another year, another likely large scale  tournament -- this time with multiple Smash titles.  Evo is tentatively allowing a controversial aspect of play into the competition this year for the latest Smash Bros. title.

A news post over at Shoryuken states that we may see our first ever major tournament to allow custom moves in Smash, as Smash 4 Wii U is the first game in the series to feature them. Traditionally, Smash characters have only been assigned static values, but custom moves (along with other variables like the 'rage' meter) allow for exactly what they suggest as well as scaling damage, and various other potential changes to the nature of combat in-game. Some players believe that with the game's current state of balance and the early dominance of new "Metaknight" in town Diddy Kong, the game-changing properties are more appealing, as they could potentially level the playing field.

As it stands, the current EVO 2015 Smash 4 ruleset allows players to choose these custom moves.  Evo co-founder Joey "Mr.Wizard" Cuellar added his own insight as to why the have made this decision:

The greater community seems to want custom movesets, so I gave them until March 27 to figure it out, then we are locking them in. We will do what the community wants to do in the end.

Communities across various platforms are in a heated debate about this topic.  In fact, it has been a consideration since the arrival of the WiiU version of the series, especially with custom abilities altering the physics of certain characters' movesets, thus bringing the possibility of more dynamic and "melee-esque" play.  Until further notice, custom moves are allowed according to the the official ruleset.
