Envy became the first team in the playoffs to be knocked out after they were swept aside in two maps by MAD Lions in the first round of Lower Bracket games today. Despite Envy making a strong start and going four rounds up on the first map, their pick of Mirage, MAD Lions replied with a five round streak and finished the half 8-7 up thanks to the defensive performances of Ismail "refrezh” Ali and Fredrik "roeJ" Jørgensen who both had 12 kills apiece. In the second half it was all about Rasmus “sjuush” Beck who led MAD Lions to victory with 15 kills and a 2.06 rating for the half, helping his team to sweep aside the Envy defence and pick up a map point that left them in a strong position for the rest of the series with their own pick of Overpass next to play.It was a similar story on Overpass as the half finished with a tight MAD Lions lead after Buğra 'Calyx’ Arkın picked up 20 kills for Envy’s CT side, but in the second half Envy just couldn’t find a way past MAD Lions after the pistol round, losing seven rounds in a row on the way to a 16-7 defeat to lose the series 0-2 and becoming the first team to get sent home from the playoffs.
Key Stats:
Map 1 (Mirage)
Frederik 'acoR' Gyldstrand was a consistent force to be reckoned with over both halves as he finished the match with 14 AWP kills, the most frags in the server with 22 and the best rating of 1.36
Rasmus “sjuush” Beck’s performance was a tale of two halves. He only got six kills in the first half, but finished the match with 21 kills in total after a dominant T side.
Map 2 (Overpass)
Buğra 'Calyx’ Arkın picked up 20 kills for Envy on their CT side to keep the game competitive by half-time, but only two kills on the T side showed how ineffective Envy were against a solid MAD Lions defence
Ismail 'refrezh’ Ali had a great game for MAD Lions, topping the server with 22 kills and a 1.53 rating
Vacant's Analysis:
MAD Lions showed their strengths by taking a map off Envy, and it was a complete team performance over the whole series with only 11 kills between their highest and lowest fraggers and every player finishing with a rating higher than 1.11. If they can keep up their form, they stand a good chance in this lower bracket.
Envy will have to go away and reflect on where it all went wrong, as they struggled throughout the tournament, only managing to pick up a single series win in the Last Chance bracket in the group stage against Gen.G.
Next Game:
Envy are going home, but MAD Lions go into the next round of the lower bracket to face the loser of Virtus.Pro vs BIG on Friday. In the meantime there is also the other upper bracket match between Fnatic and MiBR to look forward to, so get your bets in on Midnite.com.
