Origen closes out IEM San Jose with a victory

The European representatives and semi-finalists at the Season 5 World Championship bring home Europes first international tournament win of the year.

The final international tournament closes with a win from Origen on the patch used for the Season 5 World Championship.  The tournament was crammed into two days, starting with TSM fighting their old "toughest" opponents from Group D in LGD, who despite having time to fix their issues, still fell to a 4-day old finalized roster from the American squad.

CLG then went on to face Unicorns of Love who replaced Fnatic at the event.  In a quick 2-0 sweep, Counter Logic Gaming made quick work of the new squad who replaced several of their members, but it wasnt without drawbacks to the American team, either.  CLGs star AD Carry Doublelift was dropped from the squad and picked up by Team Solomid, the teams biggest rivals, almost immediately after.  On a less impactful note, Pobelter, the teams starting mid laner for Season 5, was replaced with HuHi, who practiced with the team before the Season 5 World Championship in anticipation of potential visa issues.

The semi-finals put Team Solomid up against Origen.  Team Solomid were able to dismantle LGD, but still looked understandably sloppy through their newly formulated team, while Origen kept the same squad with the exception of an upgrade in the mid-lane, with their former mid laner still impacting the team by assisting and coaching.  Bright eyed as fans of the team may have been after the "upset" over LGD Gaming, Origen dismantled Team Solomid with ease, sweeping them and taking the first final spot.

The next set would be a little closer as Counter Logic Gaming tested their mettle against Jin Air.  Jin Air sported a whole new line-up, including replacing their former jungler Chaser, who some claimed to contend as the best jungler in the world. Regardless, it was a decision the team consciously made that they believed would push the team forward, rather than a technicality.

The first game was back and forth, but eventually saw CLG taking the victory with Darshans outstanding top lane perforamnce.  Darshan would captivate once again in the second game with his AP Fizz, while Xmithie was settled on his biggest jungle comfort pick in Gragas.  CLG remains the only North American organization to win a best-of series against a Korean team following this tournament, and for the first time in three years.

Once again, things looked hopeful for the North Americans, but facing a top European team who placed top four at the prior Season 5 World Championship where CLG with an arguably stronger roster didnt exit groups wasnt going to be easy. On top of that, Counter Logic Gaming were fatigued from the prior set and the long duration fo the tournament. Origen spent their off-time well by scouting Counter Logic Gamings win conditions.  With a heavy focus on shutting down Darshans dominance and HuHis performance being less than stellar towards the end of the tournament, it was very difficult for CLG to find any open windows to succeed.  While Stixxay performed exceptionally for his first showing on stage, CLG were swept by Origen, dropping 0-3.

With the conclusion of this tournament, North America, Europe, South Korea, and China have all won international events this year.  Origen is the first team to pave their way to Katowice in the IEM World Championship, where Team Solomid were the previous champions.
